So many essay introductions are poorly done (see the next item) that the rare creative introduction stands out a great deal. Challenge yourself to start your essay in a way that grabs the attention of a committee member who has been shuffling through more than 100 essays before looking at yours.

Hi, Im from Indonesia. And right now, I really want to get scholarship for master degree. And for that, I want to ask you somethings.
When i applied an online scholar ships, how many words do i have to write in my essay application. Becuse some time if i apply something online, i felt it more up close and personal than i send it via email or airmail.
And everytime i wrote an on line appication, i always wrote it shortly.
I only mention, my degree and where i get it, my present job, why i want the scholarship and what will i do for the world. Thats it.
Acctually, i never know is it right or not.
Can you give me some advice?
Thank’s
Best regards,
CHIKA HARYANI
Hi, Chika — thanks for your question. I wish I had a good answer, but the truth is, you just have to do whatever the directions tell you to do, and that’s going to be a case-by-case decision. If there are no guidelines, I’d give you my usual advice, which is to make your essay as long as it needs to be to get your point across, and no longer. 🙂
Good luck!
Josh
